New Haven Heroes

The best stories always begin with good characters. Roleplaying stories are no different.

This week I've been fiddling with ideas to bring something very old back to life, breathing interest and excitement back into my vision of the Traveller setting. Two decisions have helped me to break out of old assumptions and freshen things up:

  1. Creating four concepts for character pre-gens which help set the tone.
  2. Shifting the focus away from the big-scope galactic right down to a tight-focus city setting.
Instead of the free-wheeling campaign aboard a starship, complete with trading for resources and to keep the ship payments flowing, I've opted for a totally different model. One world, one city and a plot focused upon a group of local characters who are about to try and make a difference.

Spaced

Well worth a look if you're an SF gamer...
Insomnia. Not something that I really used to suffer from very much but which, recently, has occasionally struck. Tonight's was unusually intense. It was the cause of another wave of thought about the kind of SF gaming that I'd like to try.

HARPing On
This week has been a quiet one for roleplaying for me. Being so busy at work, and intensely tired each evening, I've not had the energy for much musing... and the school club meeting had to be postponed because I was needed elsewhere. Nothing really surprising there.

That being said, I've been flipping through the electronic version of the HARP SF rulebook again and it got me thinking about the Serene Dawn campaign that I was banging on about a couple of months ago. (See article "Out On The  Rim")

Tripping North

Some days the creative juices not only flow but they simply have to. Yesterday was a day like that.

Following the regular Friday Roleplay session of GURPS, in which the heroes escaped from the clutches of the Witchfinder and discovered that something fishy was happening under that wide-brimmed hat, someone made a comment which literally sparked off a day of writing.

“Could we play your Mykovnia setting with Pathfinder?”

My reply was simple: “It’s possible.”
